Portable. [2021]
Portable. is a simple game, with the intent of fostering connection between people. The name Portable. is derived from its inherent mobility, which was a core design feature for the game. Users should be able to move it around, adapt to surroundings, and play whenever, wherever, with whomever. Another design feature is that of transparency. The transparent elements in the material, makes it so users can engage with their surroundings more easily. Further, transparency can be translated to that of 'openness', as is part of what our game tries to support and engage from the users.
The game is simple enough - roll a dice, and progress through the maze. Every space you land on, you draw a card. The card will tell you how you are to interact with your tablemates. There are four types of cards you can draw: ACT embrace the playfulness of this category, and carry out the activity. PERCEIVE how do you view your tablemates? INQUIRE get to know your tablemates. If you draw the card, you choose who should answer the question. JOKER this card is indicated by the Portable. logo. The player can introduce a rule to the game. Use your imagination.
Alongside the game, we focused on branding and building a social media campaign that would engage our potential users. This included an instagram profile and a set of posters that mimicked the cards from the game. On the profile we featured students acting out the cards next to the posters, which we had placed around the school.
The following images are from an exhibition, in which the game was presented to users, and played by some. Additionally, I have included images from the branding of our game, as in that we primarily wanted to target the young 'moving' generation, it needed to be aesthetically pleasing and therefore branding was crucial.
